Holiday greetings to you all
I have forwarded Brenda’s note on the Watershed Management meeting held Dec 8th. This note includes the link to the video recording of the meeting. I have also appended the Powerpoint -presentations made during the meeting.
Bob and Annie – you were there for the meeting as well. My take is that the lake water quality remains excellent with no change pretty much since the extensive monitoring programs commenced.
Generally there were no surprises. I was somewhat disappointed with the Regional District position regarding continued progress on the milfoil weevil program. After so much time, energy and resources devoted to this project, it would be a pity to see it go nowhere for any reason other than good science – i.e. lack of political will. Clearly our Society has not the resources to take it forward, other than providing some administrative support – reading, letter writing and so forth. My take it that is will take a concerted effort, supported by more orgnizations such as our own, working together, to bring about real progress here. I believe that it is the will of our membership to continue to support this work as much as possible – there are other, as Arlene can testify, other approaches that may have merit, based on cost and effectiveness. In the meantime, it appears that the two-team dive boat approach will continue, possible with reduced staffing, consistent with WorkSafe BC requirements.
You will note that the dock/foreshore initiative was not included in the program
I will forward Brenda’s note, link and presentations to our membership when the rush of the Christmas period has eased. We have our daughter and her family (two youngsters, almost 5 and almost 3) with us. – so it is rather noisy and busy!
At this holiday time, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your work and support for the work of the Society over the past year. We look forward to another mussel-free year! All the best over the Holiday period and safe, stress-free travels, wherever you go.
Sincerely
Mike Fairweather
